Diagnosis
Pancreatic cancer is difficult to detect and diagnose in the early stages for the following reasons:
- In the early stages of pancreatic cancer, signs or symptoms are not noticeable.
- The early signs of pancreatic cancer, when present, are easy to miss with the signs of many other illnesses.
- The pancreas is hidden behind other organs such as the stomach, small intestine, liver, gallbladder, spleen, and bile ducts.
There is no standard diagnostic test for pancreatic cancer, but the following tests and procedures may be used to diagnose it:
Biopsy
Blood Tests
Computed Tomography (CT)
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (MRCP)
Positron Emission Tomography Scans (PET)
Trans-abdominal ultrasound
