Treatment by Stage
The extent of the cancer in the body is determined by a process called staging. This process helps the doctor determine the prognosis and best treatment course for the patient. Determining the stage of pancreatic cancer requires more imaging tests and maybe surgery to be accurate.
Pancreatic cancer stages are described in two ways: by stage number or by surgical resection category. The stage number is used to describe the size and location of the surgical resection category. The surgical resection is used to describe whether or not the tumor can be surgically removed. The following table explains each stage and shows the relationship between stage number and resection category.
